Help For the Community

Founded in 2002, HACRET was legally registered in Tanzania on 6th May 2005 (Reg. No. 12187), and re-registered under NGO ACT No 24 of 2002 on 6th August 2019 (Reg. No: 00NGO/R2/000319).HACRET is a non-governmental, non-religious, non-political and not-for-profit organization committed to the best interests of children, youth and women with disabilities across Northern Tanzania — specifically Arusha region.

What We Aim to Achieve

To promote accessibility of quality education, skills training to children and youth with disabilities in and out of schools in Arusha region.

ii

To intervene health challenges, by provision of rehabilitation, medication, fights against malnutrition, friendly environments and mobility supports for children with disability in Arusha region.

To advocate for the rights of people with disabilities on the area of inclusive development in their daily living.

To empower people with disabilities on economic, entrepreneur skills, self-help and initiate small business in their locality areas as the way of creating independent living situation.

Raising awareness on disabilities issues as the way of reducing negative attitude and sensitize community on positive attitude toward people with disabilities within the community.

What We Do

Our Working Areas

Education for Children & Youth with Disabilities

Providing and supplying educational materials to students with special needs; rehabilitating and creating friendly environments in schools; initiating vocational training centres with different skills for youth with disabilities for employ-ability and self-employment.

Health Care, Rehabilitation & Medication

Supporting devices for persons with special needs (wheelchairs, hearing aids, white canes, eye glasses, braces, crutches); ENT health assessment outreach to PWDs in marginalized communities; education on disability prevention and safe birth; NHIF support for children with disabilities.

Economic Empowerment & Sustainable Livelihood

Supporting vocational materials for skills training in special education schools; capacity building for professional teachers on handicraft training; economic empowerment for parents of children with disabilities; fighting poverty and zero hunger for families with PWDs in remote areas.

Awareness Raising on Disabilities & Human Rights

Raising community awareness on challenges faced by children, youth and women with disabilities; advocating for the rights, dignity and values of PWDs; promoting non-discriminatory infrastructure; promoting equal opportunities and accessibility in all aspects of economy for self-reliance.

General Assembly

Supreme organ formed by representatives of parents/guardians of children with disabilities, teachers and local disability groups/CBOs collaborating with HACRET.

Executive organ providing strategic leadership, supervising and evaluating the work of the Organizational Management Team in line with the constitution and policies.

Comprises the Director, Program Manager, Financial Manager, Project Coordinators, Volunteers and all internal sections within the organization.
